라이팅과 스피킹에 "가장 많이 사용되는 동사들"- 뜻 정확하게 아시나요?

보이기에 너무나 익숙한 단어들이라 우리가 잘 알거라 생각해서 그냥 스쳐 지나가지만 사실 이러한 기본동사들만 정확하게 알아도 스피킹과 라이팅에 많이 도움이 됩니다.

오늘 우리가 너무나도 잘 알고 있다고 생각한  이 동사들이 혹시 다른 뜻이 있는지, 

다른 의미로 사용되었을 경우 동의어들은 무엇인지 알려 드릴게요.

 

1. Break

• 부러지다, 깨지다 (물리적/신체적 손상 또는 부서짐을 나타냄)

동의어: shatter, fracture, smash, crack, snap 

The vase fell and broke into pieces. 화병이 떨어져서 여러 조작으로 깨어졌다.

• 휴식시간 (명사로 사용)

동의어: pause, interruption, intermission

Let's take (have) a break from work and get some coffee. 우리 잠시 휴식시간 같고 커피 마시러 가자.

 

• ~성취하다, ~이루워 내다, ~성공하다

동의어: achieve, accomplish, succeed, attain, reach

After countless rejections, the writer finally broke through with her first published novel.

수많은 거절을 받은 후에 그 작가는 마침내 첫 번째 소설을 출판하는 데 성공했습니다.

2. Come

• 오다, 가다

동의어: arrive, approach, reach, move toward, come over

I will come to your house for dinner. 저녁 먹으러 너의 집으로 갈게.

 

• ~부터 발생되다/일어나다.(~발생된 기원을 나타냄)

동의어: originate, arise, stem, derive

The idea came from a brainstorming session. 아이디어는 브레인 스톰 기간에 일어났다.

 

• 결정하다, 마음을 정하다

동의어: decide, conclude, determine, settle, make up one's mind.

We haven't come to a decision yet. 우리는 아직 결정을 정하지 못했어.

3. Get

• ~ 구입하다

동의어: buy, purchase

I need to get a new phone. 나는 새 전화를 구입해야 해.

 

•  ~받다. ~습득하다

동의어: acquire, obtain, receive

Lily got a trophy for winning the race. 릴리는 경주에서 이겨 트로피를 받았다.

 

• ~해지다.

동의어: become, grow, turn

She got angry at the news. 그녀는 뉴스에 화가 났어.

 

• ~이해하다.

동의어: understand, comprehend, grasp

I don't get what you're saying. 나는 네가 무슨 말을 하는지 모르겠어.

4. Have

• ~소유하다.~를 가지고 있다.

동의어: possess, own, hold

I have a car. 나는 차를 가지고 있다.

 

• ~경험하다.~겪다.

동의어: experience, undergo, endure, go through, suffer

My friend is having a difficult time. 내 친구는 어려운 시간을 보내고 있어.

 

• ~먹다, ~마시다.

동의어: consume, eat, ingest, drink

I have breakfast at 7 every morning. 나는 매일 아침 7 시에 아침을 먹는다.

He usually has coffee in the morning. 그는 보통 아침에 커피를 마신다.

 

• ~포함하다.

동의어: contain, include, comprise, possess, feature

The report has several charts.(에세이 사용할 때는 contain을 사용하는 것이 더 formal)

5. Look

• ~보다.~응시하다

동의어: gaze, glance, observe, peer, stare

Eva looked out the window at the falling snow. 에바는 창문을 응시하며 떨어지는 눈을 바라보고 있다.

 

• ~보이다.

동의어: appear, seem

The situation looks really bad. 그 상황은 아주 나빠 보인다.

 

• ~찾다, ~구하다

동의어: search, seek, hunt, explore, scan

I'm looking for my keys. I can't find them anywhere. 나는 열쇠를 찾고 있어. 어디에도 찾을 수가 없어.

 

• ~조사하다, 검사하다

동의어: investigate, examine, delve into

The doctor will look at your ear to see what's wrong. 의사 선생님은 너의 귀에 어떤 문제가 있는지 검사하실 거다.

 

 

6. Make

• ~만들다.

동의어: create, produce, craft, manufacture

My mother made a cake for the party. 나의 엄마는 파티를 위한 케이크를 만들었다.

 

• ~하게 하다.~을 일으키다

동의어:cause, induce, bring about, trigger, generate

The surprise party made her happy. 서프라이즈 파티는 그녀를 행복하게 했다.

The fire alarm made everyone evacuate the building. 화재경보기는 빌딩에 있는 모든 사람이 대피하게 했다.

 

• 요리하다.

동의어: cook

I am going to make dinner for my family tonight. 가족을 위해 오늘 밤에 저녁을 요리할 거야.

 

• ~준비하다, 약속을 잡다.

동의어:prepare, schedule

7. Put

• ~에 놓다, ~두다

She put her feelings into words. 그녀는 감정을 말로 표현했다.
